Makeup Artist Charlotte Tilbury Takes Us on an Exclusive Closet and Bathroom Tour
On functionality: A large, central island (custom marble-topped, scalloped edges) comprises Tilbury’s mission control. Only the most worthy lab samples move from a cupboard to this countertop to — hopefully, eventually — vanities across the world.
On visual reminders: Tilbury commissioned artist Paula Haenlein to hand-paint a series of goddesses on antique mirrored panels, which were then hand-cut to frame her wardrobe. “I believe that all women are goddesses,” she says. (The ones in her boudoir include Nike, Qetesh, and Tanit.)
On indulging: After soaking in the bath, Tilbury applies her signature Magic Cream from head to toe. To those who critique her habit (1.7 ounces retails for $100), “I’m like, ‘Sweetie, if I own the company, I can use Magic Cream wherever.'”
On stocking up: Tilbury stocks multiple shades of complexion products. “Sometimes I fake tan, but I don’t ever put my face in the sun,” she says. (“I’m actually working on the most incredible product, but anyway…” she trails off. If a tinted sunscreen is forthcoming you heard it here first.) She mixes shades to match her skin tone, plus one shade brighter under eyes.
On setting the tone: The key to achieving a zen space, says Tilbury, is to engage all five senses. She might light a candle (Diptyque Baies), apply a face oil (Kora Organics Noni Glow), dim the overhead lights, and chime a crystal sound bowl. “It calms the frequency of the room down,” she says. “We live such busy lives. It’s important to have that sacred space.”
